Covid-19 Vaccination FAQ
The first dose of your COVID-19 vaccine provided you initial protection against the SARS-COV-2 virus and greatly reduced your risk of infection. The second dose or “boost” is extremely important to create a stronger and longer lasting immune response against the virus. This response is important for combatting variants, reducing transmission to others, and returning to life without restrictions.
Since you received the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for your first dose, you have the option to get either;
- Oxford-AstraZeneca again for your second dose
The two-dose series of the AstraZeneca vaccine is Health Canada approved and has been given around the world. The risk of a serious blood clot from the vaccine is exceedingly rare and is even lower (up to 10X lower) with the second dose. If you would like to receive the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, please register here at one of our pharmacy locations. You will provide an appointment booking link approximately 8 weeks from when you received your first dose at the pharmacy.
- 2. A mRNA vaccine (Moderna or Pfizer) for your second dose
COVID-19 vaccines have been approved for “mixing and matching” by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI). Numerous studies have shown that this combination is safe and effective in producing a strong You can choose to get an mRNA vaccine (Moderna or Pfizer) at one of dedicated immunization clinics in British Columbia. Be sure to register on the provincial get vaccinated registration system to receive a text or email reminder when you can book your appointment for an mRNA vaccine.
