Yellow Fever is a potentially fatal disease caused by a virus, which is spread by infected mosquito bites. The name “Yellow Fever” comes from the main symptoms associated with the disease. Symptoms may include: headache, backache, fever, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin). 

  • Vaccine against yellow fever

  • Wear Protective clothing

Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants or use insect repellent. 

  • Avoid peak exposure times

Mosquitos that can transmit the yellow fever virus typically feed in the early mornings or later at night.

  • Use AC or window screens

Sleeping in rooms with air conditions or with screens on the windows may reduce your chance of getting yellow fever.

  • Insecticide treated bug net

You may also treat your bug net with an insecticide to keep infection-causing mosquitoes away.

Full dose of the vaccine confers protection "for the life of person vaccinated" in most cases, and an International Certificate of Vacccine Prophyaxis (ICVP) will be issued. Partial dose of the vaccine confers protection for ONLY 1 year - no International Certificate of Vacccine Prophyaxis (ICVP)  will be issued. Click Here for more information regarding documentation.
Vaccination with the Yellow Fever vaccine (YF-VAX) is the best way to protect yourself against Yellow Fever. YF-VAX should be administered at least 10 days before travel, however, it is best to receive the vaccine 30 days before your trip to ensure it is most effective.
